Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin

Showing in Gallery I         Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin’s Invitation

Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin uses her camera to capture aesthetic qualities possessed by certain trees, whether it is their sensual limbs, their unique foliage, or the gestural stance they exhibit. In addition, the Tree of Life is a universal motif in the spiritual traditions of many cultures. This symbolism inspires the artist as she incorporates a heightened sense of the sacred and ineffable in her photography. The tree embodies tension between stability and struggle, augmenting the energy of her portrayals. In traveling to places such as Kauai, Israel and California with frequency, Ginsburgh Hofkin feels compelled to re-visit particular trees of interest. She uses black and white infrared film to record the intense contrast between light and dark and the visual nuances that fall beyond what the human eye can see. The observer senses a subtle mystery that challenges normal perception.

Elise DeLong

Showing in Gallery II         Elise DeLong’s Invitation

Elise DeLong's paintings evoke a symbolic and mystical space, a land of imagination and a pilgrim's devotion. The scenes are created with translucent veils of paint that are layered, scraped back, and re-glazed to give them a complex luminosity. The organic method of building up color is complemented by a strict geometric organization; the same principles of geometry have been used throughout history to build civilization's most sacred buildings. She creates many of her own paints from traditional pigments derived from earth, stones, plants and other organic sources. Elise is based in London, England where she develops educational resources for The Prince's School of Traditional Arts. Her work also takes her around the world as she teaches courses which explore the intersection of traditional arts and mathematics. She has completed a commission for HM Queen Elizabeth II and her paintings are in several important collections including that of HRH The Prince of Wales and HH President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan.
